According to rule stated by the National Federation of State High school Association, starting from January 1, 2012 all the bats used in high school play should be BBCOR certified baseball bats. Collegiate associations put this rule in place for the 2011 season. All the non wooden bats are no longer legal for high school play and should have a minimum half inch BBCOR logo on each side of the barrel. These new BBCOR bats have smaller barrel than their BESR counter parts and are heavier because more weight is distributed to the end of the barrel.
